Springfield Access Channel 5 is now editing  the taping done of The Clifton Opera House.  Several volunteers participated.  We'll keep you posted on when it will be aired. 


Donations!!! 

We have started our appeal for donations for the historic building repairs.  Several grant applications have been filed and to date we have been notified that Vectren Foundation will be giving us $2,500 toward our ceiling/attic repair of the Clifton Opera House.  Yellow Springs Community Foundation has also awarded us a $3,500.00 grant!  And DP&L just announced their committment of $5,000 towards our Opera House repairs!

Local patrons have been very generous and we thank you! Every dime raised will be used to repair one of our historic Clifton buildings.  Have you noticed the activity at the Clifton Union School?   The porch roof is being replaced over the back door area.  


    

The Greene County Quilt Square Trail



The  Greene County Convention Bureau is organizing a Quilt Trail event in Greene County.  The quilt squares will be  painted on free-standing boards or directly on buildings.  The goal is to stimulate tourism and encourage travel to Greene county to see the Quilt Trail and to promote our agricultural history and appreciation of the richness of life here in Greene County.  Clifton leads the way with it's quilt painted on the Herbs N Lace Cottage Bakery building by Sharon Benedict.  Clifton committee is represented by Brenda Walter and Paula Lazorski.



Committee formed to research Village Historic District

The council has appointed a committee to research the opportunity for Clifton village to be recognized as a historic district.  The committee will also search for grant monies to restore the historic buildings owned by the village; The Opera House, School House and Fire Station.  The committee is headed up by Brenda Walter, Paula Lazorski and Melody Click.  The committee will also organize utilization of the Opera House for events in addition to the Saturday night performances.  Check the event page for upcoming performances and fairs.     



Preservation Society of Clifton News

As a winter project, the PSC will be digitatizing old photographs of Clifton to preserve the historic images of the village and it's events.   Check the event calendar for the next date to bring in old photos.  They will set up a scanner at the Clifton Senior Center and scan your photographs for free.  Be sure that your photographs are labeled and dated.  Bring in your photographs and wait for them to be scanned, have a cup of Clifton Gorge coffee while you are waiting.   

Clifton Gorge coffee by the bag is available at the Clifton Opera House for $10.00/bag.  Purchase at the concession stand. Box office opens one hour before performances.
   

Clifton Opera House 2010
Saturday night opened the 2010 season at Clifton Opera House.  Sweet Betsy, from Dayton played and delighted everyone with their wonderful Americana blend of music.
